Yoona Park, Viola Virtuoso from Paramus,
Awarded 2022 Roland L. Meyer Scholarship
Yoona Park, a virtuoso violist with a high degree of service to communities both local and global, has been named as the 2022 winner of the Roland L. Meyer Scholarship Award by the Orpheus Club Men's Chorus (Orpheus).
Ms. Park, from Paramus, New Jersey, will graduate from Paramus High School (PHS) in June 2022. She will attend The Juilliard School in the fall as a performance major, specializing in viola.
Ms. Park's musical career began with the piano when she was 5 years old, then continued with her study of the viola when she was 11. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, and the recital halls at The Juilliard School. She is a student of The Juilliard School Pre-College, where she studies with her teacher Yi-Fang Huang. Ms. Park is also a member and vice principal chair of the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra, a member of YoungArts of the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists, and a violist with the Mu Quartet.
Ms. Park has played in PHS' Chamber Strings, Symphony Orchestra, and PHS Quartet for all four years of her high school career, and has participated in the Tri-M Music Honor Society as a high school junior and senior. In high school, she has also been a member of the National Honor Society, HOPE Club, Interact Club, Red Cross Club, and UNICEF Club. She has been the viola principal chair of both the North Jersey Region I High School Orchestra and the New Jersey High School Orchestra.
Ms. Park has assembled a long list of awards and commendations for her music since 2015.

“While studying at The Juilliard School as an undergraduate student, I plan to teach students just like I do now, to build experience for the future,” Ms. Park said. “I have a goal to use my talent to make an impact on society. I wish to further spread the greatness and the beauty of classical music all around the world by performing and teaching. I also dream to serve the community, as one of the many opportunities that gives me inspiration is community work.”
Ms. Yoonhee Roberts, Orchestra Director at Paramus High School, recommended Ms. Park for the Orpheus scholarship.
“Yoona has shown a very high level of playing skills and musicianship,” Ms. Roberts wrote. “I am very certain that Yoona has a bright future as a violist. In addition to her high performance level, she is genuine and cordial with a good manner.”
Orpheus’ Meyer scholarship includes an award of $2,000 toward Ms. Park’s studies.
The Orpheus Club Men's Chorus is a singing force for good throughout the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. It comprises men who love to sing, enjoy the company of like-minded men, and perform with a sense of service to the larger community. Orpheus was founded in 1909 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and is the oldest cultural institution in Bergen County.
