Ron Levy,  Pianist and Assistant Conductor

Picture
Ron Levy, internationally acclaimed pianist, has been called "first-class" by The New York Times.  He regularly appears as a soloist, and in partnership with many of the world's leading singers and instrumentalists. A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, Mr. Levy is a founding member of the Hudson Trio, Kaleidoscope, the New World Trio, the Manchester Chamber Players, the Breucklin Trio and the award-winning Palisades Virtuosi, resident chamber ensemble at the University of Hawaii and The Ridgewood Conservatory. He has been pianist and harpsichordist of the Oberlin Orchestra, the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey and North Jersey Philharmonics, the Westchester Symphony, the Albany Symphony and the All Seasons Chamber Players.

For over 20 years, Mr. Levy was associated with the Manchester (VT) Music Festival, of which he was a faculty and Executive Board member. While living in Vermont, he was Music Director and Conductor of the Opera Theater in Weston, and impresario of the "Third Saturday [chamber music] Series" at the historic Equinox Hotel (where he was Music & Entertainment Director), as well as the "Music On The Hill" series at the Southern Vermont Art Center.

Mr. Levy is currently the Music Director of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, NJ, and Pianist and Assistant Conductor of the Orpheus Club Men's Chorus. A champion of new music, he has been the recipient of a considerable number of works written for him by prominent composers.

Mr. Levy has taught at numerous colleges, and is currently an instructor at Montclair State University. He also maintains an active and ongoing affiliation with the Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, NJ PAC and HAC PAC.

Mr. Levy conceived two "mini-festivals" on the subjects of Ondine and Les Six, which were presented by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. He was a frequent soloist with the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art's in-house chamber ensemble. In 2008 Mr. Levy performed (with Palisades Virtuosi) at the venerable Stratford (CA) Summer Music Festival, founded by Glenn Gould.

In November 2013, Mr. Levy presented a concert at Weill Recital at Carnegie Hall, which included sixteen works written for him and his colleagues. That same fall, he served on the jury of the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition. Mr. Levy is a member of the Board of Directors of the Rockland and Monmouth Symphony Orchestras.

A two-term President of the Professional Music Teachers' Guild of NJ, he is a contributing editor to BIM Music Publications, Switzerland. Recordings by Mr. Levy are available on the 4Tay, Albany, Centaur, Eroica, Great Kate, High Point, Koch International, MMF, Phoenix, and Summit labels. Several of the individual CDs comprising Palisades Virtuosi's New American Masters Series (Albany Records) have been submitted for Grammys.

Mr. Levy is the unintentional star of a YouTube video  which has gone viral with nearly 2 million hits: "Top 5 Page Turn FAILS During Classical Performances!"
