Yuma Okada, Floutist, Fair Lawn HS,
Awarded 2023 Roland L. Meyer Scholarship

Yuma Okada’s passion for music, which began with violin in kindergarten, has blossomed into a love of all aspects of music; performing, listening, and sharing. Over the years, he has expanded his musical knowledge and pushed his boundaries outside of classical music to a variety of new forms.
After transferring to Fair Lawn High School in Junior year, Yuma’s multi-faceted musical talents and leadership qualities were soon recognized. Among his accomplishments at Fair Lawn High School are: Marching Band Drum Major and Flute; Wind Ensemble Student Conductor, Flute, Piccolo, Trombone; Honors Orchestra Violin and Concertmaster; Jazz Band Tenor Saxophone, Flute. Yuma’s state band credits include: Region 1 Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band; Piccolo and Flute; All State Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, Piccolo, Flute; Region 1 Orchestra, Piccolo and Violin
Yuma’s goals extend beyond improving his musicianship to music education. As an educator, he hopes to create an environment for high school students to find their places in society.
